In February 2016, Bay Area funk fusion band More Fatter released a cover of Kanye West’s “Ultralight Beam” with their own twist to it. In just a couple months, the video got over 17,000 views – a big break for a band in just its sixth month of existence. Lead vocalist/guitarist Tommy Economou says the cover has since led to many gig opportunities and taught the band the importance of timing with marketing their content. Continue reading

Best places for music in the Bay

Even though the Bay as a whole is a great place for both local musicians and music lovers, there are a couple cities throughout the Bay that stand out as especially great – as an incubator of great music. Some of these cities include Oakland, particularly for hip-hop and rap, San Francisco, for all types of music – rock, jazz, hip-hop, you name it – Berkeley, and San Jose. Continue reading

Supporting Local Music

One of the best ways to maintain and enhance your area’s music scene is by supporting local musicians. There are many ways to do this. One of the best ways is to come out to their shows when you hear about them. This can be a little hard because generally local bands do not have a lot of resources to advertise their shows. The best way I have found to do so is to find local venues or bars that usually host small concerts and check out their upcoming shows. Continue reading
