Even though the Bay as a whole is a great place for both local musicians and music lovers, there are a couple cities throughout the Bay that stand out as especially great – as an incubator of great music. Some of these cities include Oakland, particularly for hip-hop and rap, San Francisco, for all types of music – rock, jazz, hip-hop, you name it – Berkeley, and San Jose.
These are most of the major cities in the Bay Area, which means they have an abundance of places where local bands and music lovers can go to perform or find new music. Bars, clubs, coffee shops, those sorts of places are the best places to find new music and/or get a career in music started. Most famous bands that came from the Bay started performing in those cities, despite where they actually started.
